The Gospel Truth
From God's perspective, His creation (people) rebelled against Him through sin (at first disobedience, then murder, atheism, adultery, idolatry... the list goes on). This destroyed our fellowship with Him. Although He could have eliminated sin by either forcing us all into loving and serving Him, or simply destroying us; He instead choose to give us a way back to His good graces through His son Jesus Christ.

To say we lived a good life, tried hard, went to church, gave to charity... means nothing. Just as every criminal receives a verdict, every sinner receives judgment. Being found guilty; we are all bound for eternal separation from God, and eternal suffering. Jesus Christ stepped in and took the penalty in our place when He died on a cross at Calvary.

Three days later He was resurrected (as was prophesied hundreds of years earlier) and now all who accept Jesus Christ by putting their faith and trust in Him are free from God's wrath. Conversely, anyone who rejects Jesus Christ and His atonement (this includes both outright rejection and indifference) will receive their just penalty.
